How to send email newsletters to Kindle with KTool

Forward a newsletter to your personal KTool inbox to read the issue on Kindle. You can send it as a separate document or collect it in Daily Read or Weekly Read. Test one complete issue before setting up a forwarding rule.

Check the three email addresses

Newsletter delivery involves three addresses with different jobs. Copy yours from KTool rather than typing the examples below.

Follow Connect your Kindle if you have not set up the destination and approved sender yet. Sending an ordinary article first helps confirm that connection before you troubleshoot an email rule.

Forward one complete newsletter

  1. Open Newsletters and copy your personal inbox address.
  2. Open a newsletter issue in your email app and choose Forward.
  3. Paste your KTool inbox address into the recipient field and send the email.
  4. Check newsletter settings for the destination of the converted issue.

Use an issue with the article text in the email. A message containing a headline and a “Read online” link may provide only a short introduction. Forwarding it will not grant access to the linked article. For the full version, sign in to the publisher's website and use the browser extension.

Keep your personal KTool inbox address private. Anyone who has it may be able to send unwanted material into your reading queue.

Choose when it arrives

Open newsletter settings, select Send directly to Kindle, Add to Daily Read, or Add to Weekly Read, then save.

Direct delivery works well for an occasional essay you want to open immediately after it arrives. A digest combines issues into a reading session. Check the hour and time zone in magazine settings; Weekly Read also needs a day of the week.

If you choose Weekly Read, look in the weekly queue before forwarding an issue again. It may already be waiting for the next scheduled run.

Forward future issues from Gmail

Gmail supports forwarding messages that match a filter. First add and verify your KTool inbox as a forwarding address in Gmail's settings. KTool sends recognized Gmail confirmation messages to your Kindle and attempts to send a copy to your account email. Use the code or link to finish verification in Gmail. If neither arrives, resolve that step before creating a rule. Google's forwarding instructions cover verification and filters.

For a newsletter filter:

  1. Open Gmail's search options and enter the publication's sender address in From. Add a subject condition if that sender also sends mail you do not want on Kindle.
  2. Search first and inspect the matching messages.
  3. Create a filter, choose Forward it, and select your verified KTool inbox address.
  4. Check the next matching issue in KTool and on Kindle.

Keep account-wide automatic forwarding off if you only want the filter's matches. Google distinguishes forwarding all incoming mail from forwarding a selected set. Other email providers have their own rule and verification steps.

Keep the original email during setup. It gives you a reference for missing paragraphs and lets you read the issue while fixing a delivery problem.

Forwarding works from the content your subscription supplies. If a publisher emails the full paid issue, that text is available in the forwarded email. If the email is a preview, open the complete article with your subscriber login and send it through the extension.

Choose one automatic route for a publication. Receiving both its feed item and its email issue can create two versions of the same story.

Diagnose a missing or incomplete issue

If nothing appears in KTool, check the forwarding recipient and the email filter's matching conditions. A sender-address change can stop a previously working rule. Also check your KTool account's access status.

If the issue is in a magazine queue, check its schedule. If delivery has been submitted but the document is missing from Kindle, use the Kindle delivery checklist.

For missing text or broken formatting, compare the document with the exact email you forwarded. Note whether the missing section was present in that email. Send Daniel the publication name and an example you are comfortable sharing so the parsing problem can be reproduced.
